Cut Copy on Festival Style & Music in a Post-LCD WorldJuly 22 4:09 PMby Nojan Aminosharei 0 Comments Photo: Très Awesome/Emma Arnold Since their 2004 debut album, Bright Like Neon Love, Australian electronic quartet Cut Copy have been synthesizing some of the most euphoric, emotive dance music on either hemisphere. Their sophomore In Ghost Colours gave us the dance-rock-with-a-dash-of-disco single "Lights & Music" and house anthem "Hearts on Fire," which we still throw down to on the dance floor. Their newest outing, Zonoscope, is the rhythmic synth-pop soundtrack of our summertime dreams (even though it was recorded in winter in Australia). When they performed at this coach outlet website past weekend's Pitchfork Music Festival, we caught some downtime with the band's front man Dan Whitman and drummer Mitchell Scott to talk about their festival style pet peeve, saying goodbye to their friends LCD Soundsystem, and what bands we should be dancing our hearts out to. ELLE: You just flew in from the Open'er Music Festival in Poland. How are you not jet lagged? Dan Whitford: We probably are. coach factory outlet Mitchell Scott: We're always jet lagged. ELLE: We've been keeping track coach outlet of music festival style, and you've lapped the performance circuit since releasing Zonoscope in February. Tell us, what festival trends are you tired of seeing? MS: Well, in Australia, the thing is people draping themselves in the Australian flag. That's, um, something I don't see myself doing. ELLE: You guys were in New York for coach factory coach outlet factory online LCD Soundsystem's farewell concert in April. What was that like? MS: There was a sense that we were all mourning a little bit. And all these people that we hung out with when we first started touring in the States, and who we knew from way back, came out for that last LCD show. We didn't go to the show, but we went to the after party, and it was a reunion of everyone we'd ever met touring. It felt like a wake or something. DW: But I don't think it will be the last musical coach outlet output of those dudes. The name LCD Soundsystem may have disappeared, but there'll be more stuff from those guys. MS: And there's just no shortage of cool new live electronic acts. ELLE: Who are some of your favorites? DW: Miracles Club from Portlandthey're doing really cool things with an old-school house vibe. Also NightLife, from Australia. He's a DJ who's done a million remixes and he's about to put out an EP of some really cool stuff. There's also World's End Press, another band from Australia that you might not know about overseas. They're awesome live, just a lot energy with an interesting combination electronic and live musical elementsI guess they're just like us when we first started. Cuttin’ Dry at John Sahag WorkshopAugust 26 12:38 PMby ELLE 0 Comments Because my hair is so short and I don't mess with my natural color, newfangled salon techniques don't normally pique my interest. But a new cutting technique? And a dry one that allows me to sidestep the awkward pre-snip wash and rinse decline? I'm there. Truth be told, even though most of our heads of hair have only known wet cuts, the John Sahag Workshop techniquea multi-step straightening/cutting/washing process simply called The Sahag Cutisn't technically new. Many years ago, stylist John Sahag (who only recently passed away) came to believe a traditional wet cut was too limiting. He wanted to cut into hair the way an architect designed a buildinghe wanted to be able to visualize and control the transformation and do so, as I discovered, literally, strand by strand. This is why they have a `no thinning shears' policy and why stylists at Sahag sometimes spend longer than an entire appointment at another salon on the first step (ironing the hair stick straight) alone. With wet hair, or even un-straightened dry hair, precision, especially when it comes to creating delicate layers in fine, short hair like mine, is much more difficult, if not impossible. Another benefit of joining JSW's clientele is access to its editorially experienced stylists. The team of men and women working there don't wear their cuts the same way everyday, and they want coach outlet you to know you don't have to, either. Walk by any of the chairs and you're likely to hear, "Or, if you're sick of that, you could do this," followed by "Or, if you're feeling edgier, push this back, slick the sides down and do that." With every cut comes an education. An experience at John Sahag Workshop is not inexpensive (a single session will set you back coach factory more than a tax-included nine-course prix fix meal at Per Se), but it is extraordinary. After the jump, check out how veteran stylist coach outlet Jutta Weiss and her deftly wielded scissors took coach factory me from puffy Lego helmet to as close to Natalie Portman circa 2006 as I could hope for. Before, during and after shots from Jutta's meticulous snip session. Jutta patiently listens as I go on and on (and on) coach outlet about how exciting it is to have clips in my hair again. Toward the end, Jutta was only inches from my head and literally, cutting hairs two strands at a time, standing back, looking, cutting two more, standing back, and so on. I'm all for Brigitte Nielsen in Beverly Hills Cop 2, but this height was looking a little http://www.ccoachfactoryoutlets.com/ Heat Miser to me. Jutta made a point to tell me that with any short cut, a "soft back" (i.e., not a straight edge, not a v-shape) was critical for "maintaining femininity." Tags:
