okay, so the season is coming up and i just got a season pass to a mountain nearby so i'll be there a lot. and i kind of want to shoot some snowboarding/skiing. lately, my main camera i've been shooting with is a hasselblad, but i really don't feel comfortable having that on my back while i'm going down the mountain. i also have a nikon n80 and think i'm gonna use that, but what kind of film is good for snowy conditions? and if i were to bring this, what is a small, padded, all-weather photo backpack i could get? i was thinking something of the lowepro slingshot series.

since most of the shots will be full of snow highlights, astia is good film. brings out the detail in highlights really well. what i do is just ziplock everything in my bag, just incase moisture gets in there, and find a beater bag you don't care about. it could end up pouring rain (or wet snow) on you out of nowhere

I've used a Compu-Trekker on the mountain before and got buried waist deep. No big deal. Now I'm about to use an F-Stop Tilopa. So well built it's unbelievable.

I would be comfortable with a Hassleblad on the mountain. They are built very well and have no batteries. If anything, pick up a cheap FM and you won't have to worry about it.

I know my Burton camera bag is fully waterproof and can carry a snowboard.

Haha, I brought my mini trekkar with 1NHS, Bronica with 80mm, 10mm, EF 28-90, and other assorted camera goodies to Loveland, and it was heavy. Not something I liked being on the mountain with, but I got good pictures, and nothing was wet. But then again, it wasn't snowing and I didn't fall.

For film, I've shot portra, pro H, ektar, and provia in the snow. The provia came out really nice but as you might expect, the snow looked like it was made of LED's. Ektar's snow looked similar, Pro H I just don't like, and portra's came out ok. There are some snow shots on my flickr, they might be labeled with the film used, if not, I'll tell you.

Cant wait for the snowboard season here, though the olympics here will some how fuck it up. Especially since my favourite local mountain is going to be closed most of the season. I'm in the same boat as you, looking for a bag for this and what film is good. Ha!

Yeah Olliepop, I'll be using the FStop Tilopa on the mountain and be riding with it on too when I'm shooting. Can't wait for some fresh snow in the mountains. It also fits in the overheads of those shitty regional jets. Real excited for that.
