Hi. I would like to start taking photos of my friends skating and would like to know what a good beginner setup would be! My budget is around 600 dollars for just the camera body. What would you guys suggest. Right now I am looking at the Nikon D2h Canon 1ds mkii and the nikon d90

d50 and d70 are price/performance/feature wise great started.

Curtis shoots primarily with a d50. http://fourcorners.tumblr.com/

Sequences should only be approached once you can shoot great stills. Yes it's cool, no you shouldn't buy a camera capable of shooting them just cause.

What about the ones I mentioned in the original post? How are those and how do they compare to the ones you mentioned?

s = $$$$ (yeah it's full frame) (but i think you just mean a regs 1dmkii not the s)

h = high speed - yahoo sequences

d90 = lol video!

all of them are capable cameras, but when it comes down to it, a waste of money for "beginner" and "skateboarding"

the d50 and 70 sync flashes at all shutter speeds, natively take the best bang per buck fisheye and can land you a cover if you can shoot a photo that's good enough. afaic if you "want to get in to shooting skating" and want a digital camera, you may as well start with something inexpensive, and totally capable.

I got my Nikon D2X on here for $500 and definitely recommend it if you are looking to shoot sequences as well.

yea see a 1D and a 1Ds are two different cameras, 1Ds is about twice the megapixels with a full frame sensor and yea its cool to get one but I wouldnt say its a camera for beginners whatsoever

How much is a good deal on a d50 or d70? The only diffrence between those and the d90 is the d90 shoots video?
I am trying to find a camera on craigslist. I dont see much D2x on craigslist but shooting sequences isnt my top priority but wouldnt mind it for the future.

This is SP so D50. But really, they're both capable cameras, a D70 kit will cost you maybe 50 to 100 more than a d50, buy a body and a 50mm in my opinion and maybe a third party fisheye or if you can find a nikon 10.5 in your price range. and you might want some flashes later so if you can save money now that's a boners.
