wtf! shows how fragile life is, once again.
You can seek solice in the fact that I'm willing to bet a few years spent as a travelling skateboarder would be more fulfilling than a full lifetime as being a normal person.

There are no confirmed details at this time, but it is with profound sadness that we report of the untimely death of Van Wastell. He was just 24 years old and had just turned pro and was definitely one of the true originals. Van will be greatly missed
Rest in Peace.

I won't lie and say he was my favorite skater, or that I always watched his stuff, because I didn't. I knew the name, and saw some photos of him, but I honestly never saw footage until today, and I wish I had seen it before. Still a horrible thing to happen, especially at such a young age. My respect goes out to his family/friends. RIP Van.

This may sound weird to be this sad about someone I didn't personally know but I am honestly confused and speechless. I hope I don't seem like I'm jumping on the bandwagon but Van has always been one of my top favorite skateboarders. There are a lot of skateboarders out there but he had an X factor; something special... like someone else said he was a "True Original"...
This is the worst news I have heard in a long time. Seriously bummed. Going to have to get a board for the wall.
next time I skate I will be skating for Van!

this is the first skater's death that i can honestly say i was into him before he died. sure, keenan milton and shane cross i felt like shit too (well at least shane cross, i didn't know about keenan until after he died), but they were still contributional skateboarders. van wastell was so sick and i was really into him because i'm really into everyone on the krooked team. i watched all of his stuff, along with everyone else on krooked. he was seriously up there in my favorite skateboarders, and i seriously felt like shit when i read this on the homepage today.
RIP Van, you will be seriously missed.

Skateboarder Van Wastell died on September 5th after falling from a hotel window in Berlin, Germany.
The 24-year-old skateboarder sponsored by Krooked, Vans, Independent, Spitfire, Matix and IG Boardshop, was just days away from turning pro. According to reports Wastell was traveling with the Vans team. Although details are sketchy, Matix Clothing received a call from DLX’s Jim Theibaud:
"There are some things in life you can never prepare for. I received a call from DLX’s Jim Thiebaud yesterday, his voice calm but unsteady. What he went on to tell me was seemingly unbelievable. On Friday Sept. 5th, Van Wastell fell from a Berlin hotel window to his death. This is devastating news for all of us here at Matix, as Van was our friend, our team rider and a close homie of mine. I don’t know what else to say other than we will miss the f*** out Van, he will continue his journey in mind and spirit. Our hearts goes out to the Wastell family during this time of confusion and sadness. WE ALREADY MISS YOU MUCH VAN…"

he has been one of my fav's for a long time. he's maintained a career while staying out of the limelight and doing what he does best: some of the most creative skating i've ever seen. his parts always get me psyched to go skate even the worst spots because he always seemed to make the best of whatever was put in front of him.
sad to see him go with so much ahead of him... RIP
