    Scanner for 35mm

I picked up a Nikon Coolscan 4000 off Ebay for like $300. My 35mm scans have never looked better, barely even have to sharpen them for print and I get 4000 dpi files, which translates to roughly 12x18 at 300dpi for print. I use Vuescan for the software. Before the Nikon, I was using a V700 and was never happy with 35mm scans even with the betterscanning glass. I love it for medium and large format but no so much for 35mm.

So stoked to see SP back. Been shooting mostly B&W lately for ease/cost of developing. Below are some randoms from the past few months. Comments always welcome. Click for bigger

    The Large Format Thread

Got one of these over Christmas. Have yet to use it, but definitely looking forward to it. I had been using the hair-tie technique in my regular tank for years. Never really had a problem with that, but this new tank seems much easier and I can process more sheets at once. https://shop.stearmanpress.com/products/sp-445-compact-4x5-film-processing-system

Selling an old Sigma fisheye I found while packing for a move. It's a Minolta mount, but not sure which: http://www.ebay.com/itm/191601449300?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

Thanks guys! Yes, Big Sur is amazing. Crazy scenery everywhere you look. That was my first time there and definitely won't be the last.

    Tree Portraits

Thanks. The bolded part of Jordan's reply below explains exactly what I was going for, and the reason why I did not shoot any full length shots. Thanks man! This is exactly what I was going for and I'm really glad you saw that. On the second I liked how the bark had been stripped away, exposing the bare trunk and the tree's scars or age marks, if you will. To me, the fact that it was crooked added to this overall feel and alluded to a feeling of old age.

Shot these while hiking some local nature trails back in April/May. Too hot to shoot anything lately, looking forward to some cool weather! Edit: Just noticed they look a bit dark on here. If you click on them, they look better on the Flickr site.

So I went to the museum this weekend to see the new exhibition: "The New York Times Photographs" Every time I go see shows like this I'm blown away at how sharp, crisp, clear, and saturated with color the photos are. I'm talking crystal clear 24" prints from 35mm negatives. How do they do it??? I've had stuff scanned on Imacons and professionally printed and it's no where near the quality of the prints I saw this weekend. http://www.mocajacksonville.org/current/nytm

Man, these are great. My only crit would be the white patch and two holes on the wall behind the guy's head in the first.
