  1. Not sure if this is where this belongs, but here goes... I've seen a few people asking around about cool "cutout" transitions so I decided to make a tutorial explaining one way of doing this. As I mention, there are many more ways of creating a masked transition, it all depends on your shot, but this is probably the easiest and quickest way to spice up some of your transitions. Hope this helps! (First tutorial I've ever made).
  2. I've made several full-length videos and never noticed this before (maybe I'm just starting to be picky), but every time I do a ramp slowmo the sky looks fucked up. Usually happens when the sky is overexposed. It should be a white-ish color but ends up looking like overcast after rendering. look at the clouds in these before: after: rendering to .avi : Am I doing something wrong or am I overreacting? Any help would be much appreciated!
  3. I was wondering how to get damaged Vhs effects, paste some links or tell me where i can get them.
  4. If anyone has seen "The Joy of Painting" with Bob Ross, in the intro he "paints" the canvas and some windows are revealed. My idea is to fill those windows with clips from the full-length video I am making (going to use this for the intro). Thing is, I'm not entirely sure which method I should use to make this happen. What I've been doing is tracing over what is revealed in each frame in Photoshop using video layers. I'm using a bright blue color. Then when I'm done I can chroma key out the blue and put the clips in behind it (image above). My question is, is there a less time-consuming way to do this? Would it be more efficient to do a reveal stroke in After Effects like in the popular "paint-on" effect? My concern with this is that the brush and Bob himself move to the other side of the screen and I think that would ruin the effect. There's probably a way to do it with masking but I'm not entirely sure how to do that. I've only used After Effects to ramp clips and do some really simple stuff, so any and all feedback/advice would be greatly appreciated!

  8. My first ever skate edit with my new Canon t3i! Critique me so I know what to improve on. It was all filmed on the 18-55 kit lens because it is all I have at the moment. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNzbWy_EY3U

  10. This is my first time filming/editing ever. I know it's not that great, but please tell me what you think. All filmed and edited in one day at the local park and street spots. I'm the guy who did the tre flip at the start. Filmed on a Canon t4i/650d with a 18-55mm kit lens and a Opteka 6.5mm fisheye, with the Opteka x-grip mk II handle. Edited on After Effects and Premiere Pro Cs5.5. Watch in HD, it makes a big difference.

  12. This is a montage that I made with some of the footage piling up on my computer for the past few months. I finally had a great chance to put out a montage with my release of my website I had to do for class (www.harrisoatesmedia.com) So have a look for yourself! The Hulkster had a look for himself in the streets of Nashville, he was pretty stoked on Tennessee skateboarding! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6sN777GQTE Also check out my new website, tell me what you think of it, and check out my photography and my other videos! http://www.harrisoatesmedia.com/
