Starting A Company

Recommended Posts

Hey, what's up I guess I will lend some advice to some of you guys who are trying to make a brand...

After you perfect your design.

1. Finding a Screenprinter

- JoeParis on this site screenprints and for now I am using him.

- Contagious Graphics I used them for my satan design good costumer support and I was happy with the end product.

- Printmytees.com are very good with printing a lot of colors and hard concepts. I know Kristian Hay (Validus Apparel) uses them.

2. What shirts should I get?

- Well if you're just starting out I would suggest using Hanes 50/50. I find it to be very comfortable and it's very cheap too.

- If you want comfort I would suggest in using American Apparel (AA) which are around 6 dollars- 7.50 for a tee. Trust me the price is worth it.

- I also now found out a lot of streetwear/skateboard brands use Alstyle (AAA) which have tearaway tags. These shirts are about 6-7 a tee.

3. Ordering Tags To Have a Little Flavor

- I recently ordered tags from ClothingLabels4U.com they were the only site that had 150 as a minimum, that's why I used them.

- You could also get a Screenprinter to print a label inside the tee for you.

4. Setting up an Online Store

- Setup a Paypal account because no one uses money orders anymore, you caveman.

- Most people use bigcartel.com for a store because it's somewhat free and it handles your quantity/prices...

- If you're good with html/css paypal gives you some tools to start an online store.

5. Expanding/Getting your brand into a store

- If you want hats done go to hatcorp.com or beaniecorp.com and these people embroider very cheap and I used them with quick turnaround time and had good customer support.

- If you want your brand to get into a store you have to be confident and build a good relationship with the owner of the store. For me I asked the store owner to get my shirts into the store and he gets 5 dollars for selling the t-shirt inside his store and I get 10 for the t-shirt. Just propose to the owner that the shirts have been selling and people around the area now about brand and if people know they can get your brand in the store you'll get more customers...

- Flatfitty.com is for custom hats, I don't know much about them besides they do custom hats...

6. Photoshop/Illustrator

- Make your design into 300dpi most screenprinters will only accept this.

- Make your design original

- You may get copyright infringement if you do not completely alter the image.

- Photoshop is based off pixels while Illustrator is vectored based. If you up an image in Photoshop you might get the image pixelated while in Illustrator this won't happen.

- Use Illustrator for logos and use Photoshop for designs is how I see it.

7. Shipping

- Usually around 2.50 for the U.S one tee

- 4.00 for Canada and two shirts...

somewhat I do pocket tees but that's about it. Too much AA being ruined haha

edit: I still want to find a company who does 5 panel caps like Supreme and stuff. I would like to ask RE but I think he would not tell me.
