Who has a "job" that's filming?

Recommended Posts

What's up 2018 skate perception?

I'm sure lots of people on here are still in school, but for those who are done with school - and still shooting skating, anybody getting paid to do it full time?

My full time job is a freelance camera operator for various productions, but it all started here on SP for me. Learning the ins and outs of my mistakes and making my footage better and better. I really fell in love with the technical part of filming on this website.

Also, if anybody is looking to talk about making a career of shooting television or online content i'd be happy to discuss my role in the productions I work on. But i'm just curious who pays the bills with cameras on here.

Damn super jealous that is so sick . I wanna try and get my foot into filming for a news crew but honestly have no idea, and I don't have any "film school" background. But for now I am just sticking with my vx1

Haven't logged on in probably a year or so, but I started here the same way. Fell in love with the technical stuff on here. Don't skate anymore, just kinda fell out of it after high school when I started working full-time, miss it so much since that's really where I cut my teeth and how I got to where I am now.

My full-time job is now photojournalist/the webmaster and social media coordinator for a company that shoots news for local stations while I finish up getting my associates in Radio, Television, Film, but I finally took a leap of faith and started freelancing more seriously this year, which I've been doing off and on for the past few years...mostly video work for local churches and stuff in the area, but I just landed some corporate work this year. Super excited to be working around cameras now full-time rather than working in the pest control industry and changing oil like I had been doing for the past few years up until January on this year.

Demo reel. Take that VX to car crashes, fires etc. and cut a demo reel and send it to some news stations along with your resume. That''s how I started before I even started college.

I make money making videos but it's not my primary means of making money. I actually don't like doing it so I only tend to work with a few clients who seek me out occasionally.

I wouldn't be making any of the money I make these days if it weren't for the fact that I taught myself to shoot/edit which extended my capabilities on a computer, which is how I make all my money (being able to use a Mac and Apple software gud).

I don't shoot a lot of skateboarding anymore unfortunately but I do work for a major TV network in NYC. Like many of you, I took what I learned from here and film school and transitioned more into the creative/advertising industry. I run a small production company on the side but my day job keeps me pretty busy! I have a degree in Television and Film.

I chose the corporate route because it gave me an option for consistent income that I could then put into my own, self-funded productions. It's not the best strategy but it gives me complete creative control. Plus, none of my friends really skate anymore and it's hard to find subjects who are interested in making a full-length skate video when it's easier for them to post a clip to Instagram.
