Free Sorenson/qtp Alternative

Recommended Posts

MPEG Streamclip is essentially an Sorenson Squeeze/Quicktime Pro alternative. It is 100% free and made for both PC and mac. Personally I think it beats Sorenson Squeeze for quality to file size ratio. The file size is completely customizable (you can set a certain amount of mbps) and there are tonnes of different encoders you can use. So far its never failed on me and produced great results every time. its also a file converter so it just converts straight to another format.

Heres a sample clip i converted (from raw DV)
Original Size: 71.70 MB
Compressed Size: 8.11

Settings used:

keep in mind the probably arent the best settings, ive only tried about 3 different ones and this turned out best. if anyone finds better settings, take a screengrab and post em up.

It seems very helpful, once I figure out how to use it. Thanks, and by the way that clip that you just showed, i saw it in a little montage a while back with the same guy at the same park and everything, and I was wondering what song was in that clip? Thanks.

you can make .mov. it makes just about every type of file. ive been using it now for almost like 6 months. its better than spending money on qt pro or sorenson.

right you are. heres the one i use http://www.erightsoft.net/home.html go to freeware > super
it works and does the the same (minus the deinterlacing, but that can be done before converting), looks cooler, is a bit more user friendly(drag, drop, and press) and compresses files a tad bit smaller. use settings at (if you want to try it)

yeah, great find though, i like the deinterlacing feature. good for sure. in the settings for the squared5, limit data rate at 1248, that seems to work well. but im sticking with my super haha
